COUNTDOWN TO EUROVISION : Greece

Well it's now May and that can only mean one thing - the Eurovision Song Contest isn't far away. It's now just nine sleeps before entrants from across Europe descend on the Azerbaijani capital Baku to take part in the first of the semi finals in this year's competition. Each semi final consists of 18 performances, with just ten performers from each making it through to the 2012 Grand Final on Saturday May 26, where the 'big five' of the UK, Germany, France, Spain and Italy, along with the host nation Azerbaijan, will be waiting for them. Here at auspOp, we're continuing our daily look at each of the competitors' songs in the lead-up to Eurovision 2012.

ELEFTHERIA ELEFTHERIOU - Aphrodisiac

Eleftheria first rose to prominence in Greece through the second season of their 'The X Factor' competition in 2009. She's released a number of singles in her homeland since - and even attempted to represent Greece in Eurovision two years ago. Sadly her track was disqualified after being leaked online.
So putting all that behind her two years on, Eleftheria is officially heading to Baku as the 2012 Greek entry, with a song called 'Aphrodisiac'.
And it's pretty likeable mid-tempo pop track that's infused with a little traditional Greek instrumentation. Couple that with the fact that Eleftheria is bound to set a few hearts aflutter during her performance in the first semi final and we'd imagine Greece sailing through to the Grand Final.
It was also Eleftheria's 23rd birthday yesterday, so Happy Birthday!
